Today Microsoft officially announced the date and time that Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) will move away from a release candidate and into the final version. On Monday March 14th at 9:00pm PST, IE9 will be available for download. Non-coincidently, this is the same day when approximately 1 year earlier Microsoft had launched the first IE9 Preview Platform.
Microsoft to Launch IE9 on March 14
The launch is also timed to go off during a Microsoft endorsed party at SXSW. They are throwing quite the event! A free open bar to specified pass holders, live performances from bands like Fences, Yeasayer, and the Head and the Heart. The IE team will be giving away VIP passes to the event via Twitter for anyone that is interested in attending. Microsoft has the full details on their official blog post.
A release candidate was launched on February 10, 2011 in San Francisco. New features since the last beta version were tracking protection and use of hardware accelerated graphics, and improvements included faster performance and more support for emerging HTML5 standards.[83]
On March 14, six months after Microsoft released the first full-blown beta version of Internet Explorer 9, it made the final version of its new Web browser available for download. The company celebrated the launch with a press event and party at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin — a move that had a whiff of cognitive dissonance considering that elite techies of the sort who attend SXSW long ago abandoned IE. (Along with Microsoft products in general: I must have spotted a couple dozen MacBooks in use at the conference for every Windows laptop.)
I don't mean to come off as an ungrateful wretch. Anyone who lived through the period when Internet Explorer was both mediocre and monopolistic, with more than 90% market share, knows that today's vibrant competition is a beautiful thing. But I can't help but think that the category could use a little discord. Harmony is all very well, but if there are great leaps forward still to come, they'll spring from a radical rethinking of what a browser should be — not from all the big players' continuing to march in the same direction.
The announcement comes after the company launched a campaign to get Internet Explorer 6 usage down to 1%. Microsoft delayed the Japanese release "to reduce load on network bandwidth at such a critical time" with reference to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan this past Friday.

Microsoft announced this week that the Service, which is intended to compete with the popular Slack team based service, will officially launch on 14 March 2017. The company is planning to hold a webcast for that launch event which will be hosted by Kirk Koenigsbauer, Corporate Vice President of Office Marketing.
Downloaded, installed, started, launched IE (7, 8 & 9), and none of them could connect to the internet. I ran the diagnostics, they all came back saying my connections were fine, yet no web page. Waste of my time, unfortunately. Would have loved easy access to testing on IE.
During the keynote, Microsoft continued its march towards the release of IE9 expected in early 2011, comparing its performance to Chrome and reiterating its investments in HTML5. The company cited more than 10 million downloads of the beta since its release in September. IE 9 Platform Preview 6 is available to developers starting today.
Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed that IE9 would be launching on March 14, 2011 at 9:00 AM PST. The company will hold a launch party in Austin, Texas during the South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSWi), but not before a press briefing where IE senior director Ryan Gavin said there will still be "a few surprises." 2ff7e9595c
